The Knight House

MISSION:

Inspired by the Knight family, with the goal to continue to carry on the Knight’s legacy and dreams, The Knight House, Inc. Program mission is to aid and assist unhoused women in their time of need.

VISION / GOALS:

  • To furnish a safe, peaceful, and supportive home for women in need of interim housing
  • To foster a living environment that promotes healing, growth, collaboration, and friendship
  • To connect women to resources and services in the community
  • To offer direction, support and encouragement in securing and/or maintaining employment
  • To provide direction and support to women seeking stable housing and putting them on the path to self-sufficiency
  • To strive for connections and collaboration with community allies

OVERVIEW:

The Knight House is a single-detached house in an established neighborhood set up to provide interim housing for up to 7 women who are unhoused or at risk of homelessness. The program offers a bed/bedroom and shared use of a fully furnished home with amenities. The program director/ executive director is a social worker that assists with linking women to available resources and services in the community. This is not a personal care home = all must be able to independently manage their activities of daily living. This program shall have no drugs or alcohol on the premises, but is not a sober living recovery home = all must be free of active addictions. Whether escaping domestic violence, sudden loss of housing or seeking to end a cycle of homelessness, this shared home will bring women together to heal, grow, and strive toward self-sufficiency. Program participants will be supported in efforts for developing a plan for future stable housing.

PROGRAM FEES:

  • $200 Intake/ Admin fee upon admission
  • Monthly program bed fee based on bedroom (shared and single rooms available) and starts at $650 per month for a shared (double) room.
  • $325 Security Deposit requested upon admission and reimbursed upon departure from program provided there are no back fees or damages due.
  • If a potential participant is without funds, ask for special consideration or if a scholarship is available. Also suggest to reach out to homeless resource centers or churches to see if any financial assistance, grant, or sponsorship can be provided.

The Program was developed to aid and assist unhoused women in need and do so with realistic affordable fees. We are proud to share that our admission fees and monthly bed fees are less than all local boarding or transitional homes on the social worker's resource lists. As we evolve and grow, we aim to provide free shelter to those in need upon admission rather than enter instantly with a debt.

UPDATE: Now that The Knight House nonprofit has 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, we hope to receive donations that would allow options for free shelter stays of 30-90 days via scholarship fund. This would provide a woman time to get settled, establish with community resources, and find local employment.
